Notes from our testing
Three ounces of whiskey to ten of Coke — the classic 1:2 pour is far too strong to freeze.
A bar Jack and Coke is one part whiskey to two or three parts cola, which puts the glass somewhere near 13 to 15% ABV before ice. Scaled to a full chamber that is above the reliable window on the FS301, and the sugar has been diluted at the same time, so you fail on both axes at once.
Ten ounces of full-sugar Coca-Cola to three ounces of Jack Daniel's is the ratio we landed on: roughly 9% ABV and 10 Brix. It tastes like the drink, it freezes in about an hour, and it does not need any added sugar because the cola is already at the right level.
Full-sugar cola only. Coke Zero has effectively no dissolved sugar and the batch will go to a solid block — this is the most common version of the complaint we get about whiskey and cola in the machine.
Jack Honey changes the numbers: it is 35% ABV rather than 40 and carries noticeable sugar, so you can push the pour slightly higher. That variant has its own recipe in the library rather than being a substitution here.
